Remember the Tiramisu Mascarpone Cheesecake from my Sweet Exploration post? It was so creamy that it left me craving for more mascarpone. With some fresh figs in the fridge and a jar of California Orange Blossom Honey, I decided to make a wine pairing with some Honey Fig Mascarpone Tarts.
I’m a big fan of Heidrun Meadery’s orange blossom honey! Its sweetness really brings you to a pretty field of wild flowers — just like the scenic setting at Heidrum Meadery. When this orange blossom honey is drizzled over a fig mascarpone tart, it’s a creamy floral heaven!
The perfect wine that complements such floral sweetness is a Riesling from the Alsace region. Unlike the general perception of Riesling being a sweet dessert wine, Alsatian Riesling is a dry white wine. I picked a 2015 Alsatian Riesling from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht. This wine’s floral aroma corresponds to the aroma of the tart. While the wine’s dryness balances with the tart’s sweetness. This is an easy-to-drink wine that will truly get wine flowing through the evening!
